This week saw the annual pre-Wimbledon party take place once again in London. This year, the players have teamed up with specific designers who were set the mission of creating the most fitting, extravagant and stylish outfits possible for their chosen player.
The highlight was certainly Bethanie Mattek-Sands, who wore a dress designed by British designer Alex Noble; a designer who has previously styled Lady Gaga. Mattek-Sands wowed the photographers with a neon yellow/green dress, embellished with chiffon and tennis balls! Her chunky yellow platforms were outrageous but the outfit perfectly reflects the American's vivacious personality and energy. Mattek-Sands is known for regularly turning heads on the court as well as on it, having previously worn a cowboy hat, leopard print and her now notorious knee-high socks during matches.
Court couture: Mattek-Sands tennis outfits are always original
I for one applaud her. There are so many players who are involved in designing their outfits today but none who embrace fashion as a means of self-expression and individualism as much as Bethanie does. Watch the video below to see Alex Noble's design process for Bethanie's dress.
In my opinion, the best of the rest was Serena Williams. The defending Wimbledon champion looked amazing in a jade dress designed by Burberry which complemented her figure.
Serena looked every inch a champion
In the past, Williams muscular body has been criticised by people who have compared the star's frame to that of many of the European players on the tour. However, Serena looked beautiful, womanly and feminine, hopefully silencing those critics once again.
